“Chloronest” an installation commissioned by CHAT, Hong Kong, is presented in the group exhibition Threading Inwards at CHAT (Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile). Curated by Wang Weiwei, Eugene Hannah Park, Kurosawa Seiha, and Wang Huan, the exhibition brings together 14 artists from across Asia and explores textile as a vessel for spirituality, memory, emotion, and collective experience.
Chloronest presents an immersive, cave-like stage inspired by CGI green environments and the theatre greenroom — a liminal space of preparation and anticipation. Within this environment, there are no recognizable languages or identifiable forms; the work aims to temporarily shift our awareness into a pure colour experience. It lures the body to crawl and linger, to play with soft forms as we once did as babies, believing in the magic of animality.
Surrounded by green patchwork, soft textured walls, viewers encounter traces of patterns resembling pixelated glyphs. At the center of the wall hangs a mother figure whose anthropomorphic form suggests a multi-breasted insect or alien, evoking deities and goddesses who oversee nature. Her productivity and labor are emphasized through the small forms attached to her main body with entangled soft cords, underscoring themes of generative force, care and the undivided cycle of life.
